A special country house in the eastern Alpujarra, situated between two historic white villages, Canjáyar and Ohanes, on a 2,342 m2 plot. The house is easily accessible via a paved road with a concrete driveway and has a swimming pool and garden with fruit trees. It was designed and executed by a Dutch architect. The house is self-sufficient in energy: completely independent of energy providers and the water also comes from a natural source. From Almería airport, the house is only 50 km. The city of Almeria and the coast can also be reached in 45 minutes. The house is situated in a fertile valley with several nearby houses, but still has complete privacy.
The historic country house (cortijo) was completely renovated in 2010, so comfort, architecture and self-sufficiency were decisive. The living area of the main building is 146 m2, not including the adjacent annex and the separate stone garden house.
We enter and there is a corridor, from which you can access the living room and the kitchen. In the living room there is a pellet stove, which heats the whole house through radiators.
Upstairs are two more bedrooms with double beds and a beautifully finished second bathroom. The bedrooms have balconies with double doors. The quality of the finish is very good and the windows are double glazed and heating radiators have been installed throughout.
At the front of the house there is a large terrace, which is oriented to the east and has sun from morning to afternoon. There is also a large terrace with sun all day.
The beautiful garden has several terraces, a garden house and a swimming pool that is officially a water reservoir. The pool is 8 x 3 m, filled with spring water, with a depth ranging between 150 and 250 cm. There is a pool cover for the period that is not used. A pump and filter system has not yet been installed. The garden is designed in such a way that little maintenance is needed. Due to the relatively temperate climate at an altitude of 600 m above sea level, citrus, palm trees and other subtropical plants can also thrive. The garden consists of two parts. There is a lower garden of 711 m2 with vines, olive trees, small orange trees and a lemon tree on the other side of the entrance. The upper garden of 1,631 m2, directly at the house, has a large parking lot and plantation with four large orange trees, a large kaki tree, a fig tree, a walnut tree and ten more fruit trees.
I want to tell you more about the self-reliance system. Batteries and equipment for the solar energy system have been installed in the annex. The current system with solar panels and batteries provides more than enough energy for the house, including hot water and heating in winter. In the unlikely event that there is no sun for a few days in the winter period, a generator in the annex takes the power supply and a gas heater the hot water. The water for domestic use (and the irrigation of the plants) comes from a source that has the quality of drinking water.
The distance to the town of Ohanes is 2.5 km and to the town of Canjáyar that has more amenities is 3 km. In the town of Canjáyar there is a 24-hour medical and nursing office with a medical ambulance service, with good restaurants, small supermarkets, hot bakeries, butchers, a cooperative where you can buy fruits and vegetables and two banks with ATMs.
